Back To Solitude

‘Back to Solitude’ (2011) from Joschka Laukeninks on Vimeo.

Hey guys! Sorry for the late Short Film Friday! We’ve been backed up but we’re going to start it up again!

This week’s short film friday will be “Back to Solitude’ by Joschka Laukeninks. And might we say that this is probably in our opinion one of our favorite shorts that we have stumbled on so far.

In our opinion it’s so hard to find a great short film with narratives to go along with it. Most of the time the difficulty lies with either doing too less of narration or too much. In Back to Solitude, Joschka made an impact on the film because of the narration. He made it important that the narration was there so that way we won’t get lost in the director’s vision. What impressed us is that he used it as a ‘red herring’ (the terminology that it’s something that does stray you away from the obvious for film-watchers to think). In this film used the narration as a tool for us to be misguided that we’re watching love play forwards, when in reality the narrator of the story is telling us this story backwards. The ending gave some of us goosebumps!

Feel free to ask questions and comment below! We would love to hear what people have to say. If you like this week’s SFF, let us know! If you have any suggested short films or short films of your own you would like to showcase, please do so by clicking the following link:

Thanks for reading and we’ll be back next Friday!
